Deep Linking to SuperSearch components

It is possible to make deep links into some of the component areas of SuperSearch. Whilst you are free to use these measures, you should be aware of the caveats below.

Component Link syntax
Resource Sets tab http://search.lib.unimelb.edu.au/V/?func=quick-1
Find ejournals tab http://search.lib.unimelb.edu.au/?func=find-ej-1
Find databases tab http://search.lib.unimelb.edu.au/V/?func=find-db-1
My Stuff tab http://search.lib.unimelb.edu.au/V?func=eshelf-2
Find an Item http://sfx.unimelb.edu.au/sfxlcl3/cgi/core/citation-linker.cgi
OpenURL Generator http://sfx.unimelb.edu.au/sfxlcl3/cgi/core/openurl-generator.cgi
A particular search set in SuperSearch
  1. On the MetaSearch screen, locate the set you wish to which you wish to make a deep link, e.g. Education
  2. Hover your mouse over the set name, and observe the 9-digit number at the end of the string which appears in the status bar at the bottom of your browser screen
  3. Append this number to the base URL "http://search.lib.unimelb.edu.au/V/?func=meta-1-results-quick&sequence=", without the quote marks. [For example: the Education Set ends in the number 000000145. Append this to http://search.lib.unimelb.edu.au/V/?func=meta-1-results-quick&sequence= and you get http://search.lib.unimelb.edu.au/V/?func=meta-1-results-quick&sequence=000000145]
  4. You can perform normal search functions on this search set; as soon as you search it, the normal SuperSearch screen will be restored.
Link to a particular database
  1. On any screen where you see a database name, hover your mouse over the name and observe the number at the end of the string which appears in the status bar at the bottom of your browser screen
  2. Append this number to the base URL " http://search.lib.unimelb.edu.au/V/?func=native-link&resource=", without the quote marks. []For example, the number at the end of the string for Business Source Premier is UOM00020. Append this to http://search.lib.unimelb.edu.au/V/?func=native-link&resource= and you get http://search.lib.unimelb.edu.au/V/?func=native-link&resource=UOM00020

Caveats

Breakages can occur when deep linking! To avoid them, it is always best to link directly to the SuperSearch interface itself (http://search.lib.unimelb.edu.au) . Let SuperSearch be your up-to-date store of boomarks and links! Some examples of when deep links using the methods above might break:

  1. Some component areas may change from time to time, which will cause breakage of deep links made as above, e.g. a resource set might change its name or nature, or be deleted altogether.
  2. Particular databases may come and go as subscriptions and availability change, which will cause breakage of deep links made as above.
  3. During some short maintenance operations, service may be delivered from a backup server. This will cause breakage of deep links made as above. [During substantial maintenance windows, redirects will operate to prevent such breakage]
