Resource Sets Help

Resource Sets

Resource Sets is the easiest way to search for information in a pre-defined set of databases. To access, click Resource Sets in the menu.

  1. "Popular databases" is preselected as a default for you. This set covers the most often used databases. Alternatively, you can instead select from one of the ready-made subject-specific sets prepared by the Library, or you can select a list of databases that you prepared for yourself using the My Databases function in My Stuff.
  2. Click on a set name to see the list of databases that it includes. In this list of databases, you can click Information to display information about this database, or you can click the database name to go to the database's own native interface. Unless you are a regular user of a particular database, it is always wise to check out the Information symbol info icon before proceeding, as it often contains valuable information access, search tips and special conditions pertaining to that resource.
  3. Enter a term in Enter search term . You can use the Simple or Advanced Search . The default is Advanced.
  4. Click "Go" Go/Perform action symbol to start the search.
    While SuperSearch is searching, the screen is refreshed every few seconds showing its progress in a table which lists the databases in which it is searching. This list shows the status of the search and the number of hits found in each database. You can click Cancel to stop the search and start again.
  5. Once SuperSearch has finished searching, it displays the Search Results list. You can browse through this results list, as described in Resource Sets Results .
  6. You can now click Search in the menu to do another search.

Advanced Search

The Advanced Search provides more options for specifying the information for which you are searching.

  1. To access the Advanced Search, click the Advanced tab.
  2. Two fields are provided for you to specify the information that you seek in more detail. Select a field type by clicking the on the right of the field.
  3. Enter a term in one or both fields.
  4. If you filled in both fields, specify the relationship between the two fields:
  5. Click Go/Perform action symbol to start the search.
    While SuperSearch is searching, its progress is shown in a table listing the databases in which it is searching. This list shows the status of the search in each database and the number of hits found in each. You can click the Cancel option to stop the search and start again.
  6. Once SuperSearch has finished searching, it displays the results list. You can then browse through this result list.
  7. You can now click Search in the menu to do another search.

Resource Set Results

Resource Sets Results displays the combined results found in all the searched databases. It can be displayed in three views: Table View, Brief View and Full View . Note: If you have authenticated yourself, you can set your preferred view as part of your preferences.

At the top of the results, you can see the text you searched for and the total number of results found.

The results list includes the first results fetched from all the databases that were searched.

The results are displayed in the order of their relevance to the term you entered. You can sort the results again by selecting an option in the Sort by field. Sorting is available by author, title, year, and database name, in addition to the default sort by rank.

You can click Do More with MetaSearch in order to see your search results in the MetaSearch function where you can view the results per database, refine the search, and save the query.

Resource Sets Table View

Table View displays the records in a table, one row for each record. Table View provides the following options:

Resource Sets Brief View

Brief View provides citation information, in addition to the information provided in the Table View . Brief View provides the following options:

Resource Sets Full View

Full View shows all the record's information. It shows a page for each record and highlights the words you queried.
